Brides: Beat the Heat

Phew! Mother Nature kept the rain away for your alfresco Cape nuptials. But the forecast is calling for temperatures in the high 90s and humidity. What’s a gal to do?
We asked four local beauty pros to share their secrets for outsmarting the heat when tying the knot this summer:
Don’t give up on flowing tresses
If you want to let your locks loose when temperatures soar, “one trick is to take a thin layer of hair along the nape of your neck and roll it up. Then hide it under the rest of your hair by pinning it in place,” suggests Lisa Osborn at Renzo’s Salon. “You’ll be surprised how much cooler it will make you feel.”
Do use primer
Champagne should be flowing at your reception, not makeup. Stacey Frasca of Studio 28 swears by a primer like Camera Ready (her own creation): “With primer, foundation stays in place, eye shadow doesn’t move, and lipstick stays perfect,” says Stacey. To maintain a perfect pout in sweltering weather, use lip stain and liner in place of sticky gloss.

Do try airbrushing (or at least pick up some blotting paper)
Skip traditional foundation in favor of airbrushing by Temptu, says Andrea Ducharme of the Makeup Artists: “It is flawless in the heat. It is waterproof and perspiration-resistant.” Blotting papers, available at Sephora and local drug stores, are another must-have on her list.
Don’t use false lashes
Save the falsies for your bachelorette party. Wendy of Safar Coiffure opts for Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum for full and thick day-of wedding lashes, sans sticky glue.
Do keep hydrated
Wendy also recommends drinking water and getting plenty of rest: “It sounds crazy, but the entire week before your wedding is essential… Staying hydrated will help keep skin flawless and prevent chapped lips.”
And, the bottom line: “This man proposed to you. He wants to see you at your wedding,” she says. Keep makeup simple and hair away from your face for fresh summer wedding beauty.
