A Guide to Bridal Shower Games
Petits fours and champagne punch are fine, but sometimes an event needs a little something more. Bridal shower games provide laughs and keep the party moving. Add in prizes as incentives—think packs of macarons or Starbucks gift cards. Check out a few of our favorite playtime activities for when the girls are gathered.
What’s in Your Purse?
A seated scavenger hunt, each guest grabs her purse and the embarrassment fun begins. The host reads off a list of random items, from basic (compact, credit cards, keys) to bizarre (playing cards, flash drives). Each item gets points, and the guest with the highest number wins the prize.
The Newlywed Game
Take a cue from this famous game show, and put the bride-to-be in the hot seat. Before the shower, get the lowdown from her fiancé about their relationship: “Where was your first kiss?” “What is his most annoying habit?” Then ask the bride the same questions and see if she can answer them correctly.
Wedding Movie Charades
Make this classic mime-style game relevant by labeling note cards with wedding movies (a few of our favorites: Runaway Bride, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Wedding Crashers, and The Wedding Planner). Divide the group up into two teams. Players pick a card from the pile and act out a scene from that film without speaking a word, while their team guesses the movie in question within a set time limit.
Words of Wisdom
It’s time to “shower” the bride with marriage advice. Leave a stack of pretty note cards out for guests to write their best advice to the couple for a happy marriage. During the party, each takes turns reading these words of wisdom to the group. Aprés-party, compile these gems in a scrapbook as a keepsake for the bride.
Married or Not Married?
Give each guest a pen and a list of celeb couples, and ask them to guess whether the couple is married. The guest who gets the most correct answers wins. Here are a few suggested pairings to get you started: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, and Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
