When Cathy Ho and Evan Nguyen decided to get married after nearly 15 years of dating, they knew that hosting a large celebration wasn’t their style. So the Boston-bred couple tied the knot in a low-key ceremony at City Hall, saving the splurge for a steak-and-seafood dinner at Joyful Garden, in Watertown. “We were just going to go sign papers,” Cathy says, “but then we were convinced to have good food and get a photographer.”

And thank goodness they did. Shutterbug Lena Mirisola captured this whimsical, bubble-filled moment just after the couple exited City Hall, surrounded by some 20 relatives and friends.

“We actually didn’t find out ahead of time that someone was going to bring bubbles,” Cathy says, but Mirisola didn’t miss a beat. The photographer’s shot of the couple smooching on the steps with their Chihuahua-Lab mix, Gotham, between them is the pair’s favorite from their special day. “Even though you can’t see everyone clearly, you know everyone was there,” Cathy says. “Just being there, the two of us, and with Gotham, too—the bubbles made it feel even more magical.”
