Meredith Slater and Jacob Hyman go way back—to seventh grade, in fact, when she moved from Brooklyn to his hometown of East Brunswick, New Jersey. The two became fast friends, sticking together through high school and even college at George Washington University. But things didn’t take a turn for the romantic until after graduation. “We both just started to feel differently around each other,” Meredith says. They dated long distance—she was in Washington, DC, he was in Jersey City—before moving together to New York City, where they still live.
The couple’s love may have blossomed in the Big Apple, but their hearts belong to Maine, a place that Jacob fell for after camping in Acadia. Certain that Meredith would feel the same, he planned a similar trip for his proposal. While looking out over Frenchman Bay, “I said something about how perfect and beautiful it was,” Meredith says. “Right after, he asked me to marry him.”
For their wedding, they once again returned to nature, tying the knot at Clark’s Cove Farm & Inn. “We were outside and able to hear the leaves rustling and the birds chirping,” Meredith says. “It was really a special moment.”

In lieu of cake, the pair served pies, baked with apples from the venue’s orchard, from Dandelion Catering.

The bouquets featured pops of red anchored by green, black, and brown. “We didn’t want to take away from how beautiful the farm was,” Meredith says.

Jacob is a drummer; his band, Freelance Whales, played songs by Iron & Wine and Arcade Fire during the ceremony.

The ceremony was held at the edge of the apple orchard, overlooking the lake. “We were so in love with Clark’s Cove, and wanted to use as many spaces as possible,” Meredith says.

Before the ceremony, Meredith gifted Jacob a gold pocket watch.
